Journal Club/Seminar: Epidemiology/Critical Appraisal

Together we will critically appraise epidemiological papers. Students will learn to understand the concepts various study designs as they are described in the current literature. A focus will be on identifying the study design, summarizing the content in a structured way, and reviewing the strengths and limitations of the respective study.

The journal club will help students to get used to a structured approach of summarizing and reviewing scientific information. We will cover a wide range of study designs (cohort, case-control, cross-sectional, cluster RCT) from various disciplines.

Target audience

PhD students of the Graduate School for Cellular and Biomedical Sciences and the Graduate School for Health Sciences, University of Bern; staff members of the ISPM Bern and collaborating clinical departments; interested medical students (for instance those planning a dissertation in an epidemiological or clinical project); any other interested health professionals.
